Rejection Happens—Here’s How to Stay Positive (and Sane)

Let’s be honest: rejection stinks. Whether it's a job, audition, pitch, or idea you were sure would hit—it’s a gut punch. But it’s also universal. Everyone gets told “no.” The trick is not letting it convince you to stop.
Here are five tips to stay positive when rejection shows up (again):
1. Don’t Confuse “No” With “Never”
They said no today. That’s not the same as “you’re terrible forever.” Timing, budgets, politics—so many things are out of your control. You’re not a failure. You're just not their pick this round.
2. Make Rejection Less Dramatic (With Snacks)
Treat yourself like you're consoling a friend. Would you tell them, “Wow, you really blew that”? No. You’d give them cookies and pep talk them back into the game. Do the same for yourself. Snacks first. Overthinking later.
3. Let Yourself Laugh—It’s Cheaper Than Therapy
Rejection emails are basically a genre now: “We were so impressed... but no.” It’s okay to roll your eyes, laugh, and move on. Humor takes the edge off and reminds you not to treat every “no” like a personal tragedy. Sometimes, it’s just Tuesday.
4. Talk to Someone Who Gets It
Not your neighbor with the stable office job who says, “At least you’re doing what you love!” Talk to someone in your industry—or at least someone who’s bombed a few auditions or interviews. Misery loves company. Positivity loves solidarity.
5. Keep It Moving
Rejection can freeze you. Don’t let it. Send the next email. Take the next call. Even a small step is a win. Momentum builds confidence, and confidence keeps you from spiraling into a pint of regret-flavored ice cream.
Bottom line: rejection is annoying, humbling, and 100% survivable. Keep going—you don’t need everyone’s “yes.” Just the right one.
