Let’s be honest—creative ruts are real, even for the most seasoned pros.

As a voice actor, I know the importance of staying creatively sharp and energized. Whether I’m voicing a high-energy automotive commercial or bringing nuance to a brand story, my clients rely on me to deliver performances that elevate their vision.

But just like any creative professional, I hit the occasional wall. When that happens, I’ve found a few strategies that help me reset and bring fresh energy to the work. Thought I’d share—maybe you’ll find something here that resonates with your own creative process or your team’s.

1. Step Away from the Screen (or Booth)

Taking a quick walk helps me mentally reset. It’s a simple but powerful way to get perspective—and often when new ideas surface.  Bonus: it’s great for your physical health, too.

2. Get Inspired by Other Creatives

Whenever I visit a museum, catch a great film, or even scroll through standout design work, it reminds me that creativity is everywhere. Someone else’s bold approach can unlock a new angle for a project I’m working on.

3. Shake Up the Routine

We all get stuck in our workflows. Sometimes, a slight shift in the schedule or working environment can refresh how we approach problem-solving. For me, recording at a different time of day can make all the difference.

4. Prioritize Rest

High-output teams (and talent) run the risk of burnout. Taking intentional breaks helps me come back more focused, more efficient, and ultimately more creative. It’s not downtime—it’s an investment.

5. Start Before You’re Ready

Overplanning kills momentum. I’ve learned that just hitting record and playing with the read often leads to unexpected magic. It’s the same in any creative process—getting started is half the battle.

Creative output thrives on fresh input.

Whether you’re managing a team or crafting a brand narrative, the key is building habits that keep your perspective sharp.
